Asbestos Sample Testing

Asbestos Sample Testing in Brisbane?  We Are Your Solution.

If you need to have asbestos sampling done in Brisbane, The Asbestos Guys are ready to help.  Our company is fully certified to take on any sampling job in a thorough and safe manner.

Asbestos is a known carcinogen that causes other respiratory diseases as well, and it may be found in many structures built before 1990.   You cannot tell if there is asbestos in a material simply by looking.  The fibres are just too small for the human eye to differentiate.  The only way to know if a substance in your building contains asbestos or not is by scientifically testing a sample in a laboratory.

Although friable insulation may have asbestos in it, it also might simply consist of blown-in cellulose.  An exterior shingle may look like it is made of cement, but it could contain a significant concentration of asbestos.  Having these materials examined by an expert is the only sure way to know if they contain asbestos.

Our fully accredited laboratory is your perfect solution. We understand all the regulations associated with asbestos and can analyse materials safely and swiftly.  You needn’t worry about the chain of custody or proper disposal methods – we take care of all of that for you.  Using our precision equipment, your asbestos sample testing will be done quickly and professionally here in Brisbane by The Asbestos Guys.

Asbestos Sample Testing Equipment

Our facility boasts both state-of-the-art transmission electron and polarized light microscopes for the analysis of asbestos samples.  These methods provide our team with the flexibility needed to examine any type of sample material.

Polarized light microscopy

Polarized light microscopy is the primary method by which we identify asbestos in the vast majority of cases.  This methodology is particularly suited for bulk materials that are often found in buildings.  The microscope applies polarized light to the sample.  When added to a compensator, this causes asbestos fibres to refract the light in a way that allows for asbestos identification.

Generally, any non-friable bulk material is an appropriate candidate for polarized light microscopy.   For example, we use polarized light microscopy to classify and identify asbestos-containing materials such as:

  • Insulation
  • Ceiling tiles
  • Construction adhesives
  • Floor tiles
  • Plasters
  • Caulks

Bulk materials are well-suited for polarized light microscopy because the asbestos tends to be laid down in a relatively homogeneous way throughout the material.  This allows the technician to identify and classify the asbestos regardless of where the sample was taken.

There are some limitations to polarized light microscopy.  If the concentration of asbestos fibres in the material is too low, it will be difficult for the operator to find them in the sample.  Additionally, if the fibres are smaller than 0.3 microns, the instrument’s resolution is too low to pick them up.

Transmission electron microscopy

Transmission electron microscopy is a more advanced method of asbestos sample testing.  This instrument allows for extremely high magnification of a sample.  We use it not only for bulk materials but also for those of air, soil, and dust.

Using this device, our trained technicians are able to identify asbestos particles less than 5 microns in length and 0.25 microns in width.  This ensures that fibres removed during air sampling can be readily detected and identified.

Our staff can also use transmission electron microscopy on bulk material with a low asbestos concentration.  The material will be broken down through chemical processes, and then the residue will be analysed in a more concentrated form.  The precision and accuracy of the transmission electron microscopy ensure that they will spot any asbestos in the sample.

Our Asbestos Sample Testing Advantage

We truly have the premier asbestos testing facility in Brisbane.  Most asbestos firms need to send their samples to an external lab in order to get them analyzed.  This adds additional time and cost to their quotes.

Because we can fully test your materials in-house, you save both time and money.  You will get a rapid turnaround on your sample testing, with the knowledge that our experienced technicians are providing you with the most accurate analysis possible.

We have every confidence that our experts will find and identify the asbestos in your building’s samples.  In fact, we are so sure that we back their accuracy with a money-back guarantee.
